Overnight St. John's. Welcome Reception.

Day 2

This morning we will tour historic St. John's, the oldest city in North America. This tour includes visits to areas in the city we may not have covered in the past. Stops at "The Rooms", the new provincial art gallery, museum and archives and the Johnson Geo Centre which is  a facility that declares itself to be the "Earth's Geological Showcase". We also stop for a Newfoundland Chocolate company tasting. We will then travel north of St. John's to the Admiral's Coast. These uniquely named fishing villages nestled into the rugged cliff sides are made for photography. Dinner tonight is on George Street, a street of nothing other than pubs and bars. We will enjoy some local pub fare as well as some Newfoundland music and entertainment.
Overnight St. John's. Breakfast & Dinner.

Day 3

This morning we travel to the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula along the winding coastline of the beautiful Irish Loop, which is dotted with small ‘outport’ communities for which Newfoundland is so famous. You will visit the Colony of Avalon Archaeology Site, where the remains of an early 17th century settlement is well preserved. For those willing and able to walk the 35 minutes to Ferryland Head, lunch today will be at the Ferryland Lighthouse Picnic. Gourmet picnic lunches are served to as we sit on the grass overlooking the ocean. For others we have a nice local meal in Ferryland. This afternoon we will travel up the Irish Loop to the community of Bay Bulls. We cannot miss the chance to see thousands of Atlantic Puffins, Murres and other seabirds as well as many Humpback, Minke, and Fin whales. Tonight we enjoy dinner in Bay Bulls.
Overnight St. John’s. Breakfast, Midday Meal & Dinner.

Day 4

Today we will go "around the Bay" along the picturesque coastline of Conception Bay, the home of pirates of centuries ago.  We will stop along the way for picture taking and to visit some of the more interesting villages such as Holyrood and Brigus, one of the historic sailing ports of Conception Bay and home of the late, famous Captain Bob Bartlett who took Perry to the North Pole. This evening we travel to Trinity, our home for the next two nights. This is the oldest, perhaps most picturesque fishing community on the island.
Overnight Trinity. Breakfast & Midday Meal.

Day 5

This morning we travel to Bonavista, the landing place of John Cabot in 1497.  Here we visit the lighthouse at Cape Bonavista as well as the Ryan Premises, a National Historic Site dedicated to the explanation of the history of our cod fishing industry. This afternoon we travel back to historic Trinity. Here we walk about the town exploring the historic properties and shops.
Overnight Trinity. Breakfast, Midday Meal & Dinner.

Day 6

This morning we travel to Fortune on the Burin Peninsula. From here we take a ferry to France; the Island of St. Pierre. With a population of 6500, the infrastructure is modern and urban. The residents are a combination of rotating French employees and those who have lived on the island for many generations. Their traditions are completely European with an interesting mixture of French and Basque culture and history. On arrival in St. Pierre we take a tour of the island. The late afternoon is left free. Tonight we enjoy true French cuisine where we dine at one of St. Pierre's finest restaurants.
Overnight St. Pierre. Breakfast, Midday Meal & Dinner.

Day 7

Today we have options to suit the interests of the group. Some may choose to take a half day tour to Isle aux Marins (Sailor’s Island). This is a small island situated in the mouth of the harbour from Saint-Pierre.  It was at one time a fishing village of 600 souls, which made it larger than St. Pierre. Others may choose to take a free morning in St. Pierre to visit the sites and museums or to ‘twack’ around in the shops that feature many imports from France and other parts of Europe.
Overnight St. Pierre. Breakfast & Dinner

Day 8

This morning we catch the ferry back to Fortune, Newfoundland. We drive up the "Burin Boot" and then head into St. John's.  The group is free in the afternoon to explore the downtown area.  Tonight we share our farewell dinner.
Overnight St. John’s. Breakfast & Farewell Dinner

Day 9

All good things must come to an end and so we bid a fond farewell to France and Canada’s newest yet oldest province. As you fly home it will be with many delightful memories of an authentic Newfoundland experience that will be recalled for years to come.
Breakfast and Airport Transfer.
